Oscars 2014 Fashion

What I love most about the Oscars are the beautiful clothes that the actors wear. I've been doing sketches of the dresses since I was in primary school but stopped some years ago. As I sat watching the awards ceremony this year, I just had the urge to draw. So here are two I did in ballpoint pen. Enjoy!

Graceful Flamingo

I'm calling this one 'Grace'. I just find a flamingo's neck graceful. When I started this, I struggled with it at first so I left it inside one of my drawing pads. Then when I came back to this after some months, I finally found my joy and enthusiastically finished it!
It's going to be hard to part with this but I hope the new owner would love this as much as I do.

Dreamcatcher girl with ombre hair

This is is a commissioned drawing and was based on several photos as the client wanted a certain look. I even had to use my own hand as a basis(I made it skinnier though as my hand doesn't exactly look like this! LOL). I found it quite challenging but, of course, enjoyed the process. The ombre hair, which is in fashion now, was a bit hard to depict in pencil. I love the eyes especially.

How do you think I did? I hope my client will be happy with this :)
Now, to give her a proper name.....

Johnny Depp portrait

One of Hollywood's interesting actors, Johnny Depp!
I wanted to do a portrait of him to add to my portfolio and scoured the internet for a photo. He's usually scruffy-looking so I found this one where he's a bit cleaned up but still with that interesting contoured face. I challenged myself when I did this freehand. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. What do you think?

Mural Painting at a primary school music block

I recently completed a mural painting at Warrigal Road State School on Brisbane's southside. The weather was a challenge as I had to deal with the heat, rain (I had to stop when it rained really hard), and strong wind. But, otherwise, it was so much fun. I was engrossed in my work when the children had their classes. During breaktime they would come and watch me and have a chat. Other kids would sit under the tree and have a little picnic so I brought a picnic rug the next day. They loved it! The music teachers wanted me to paint during school days so the kids will see me in action. It was a good thing to do because it has created huge interest with budding artists. So many questions were asked and some kids even wished I would be their art teacher. I've been contemplating that and we'll have to wait and see next year ;)

I would love to do another mural, indoors or outdoors (Brisbane southside only as it'll be a challenge with the travel). I'm not sure if I'm available in 2013 as the deputy principal said that the school will be having a mural program and they might hire me again. But it doesn't hurt to ask. Email me at ZanneSB@zanneartdesigns.com.au.

I started on November 6 and finished on December 14 2012. In total, it was about 62 hours if my calculation is correct. This is my original design so no copying please. Ask permission to share photo. No cropping! Thanks :)

You can see the progress photos on my facebook page.

Oops! I just realised I didn't include the year! I'll have to go back and add it. Hmmmm....problem is the groundsman clear-coated this. I read somewhere that some coats can be stripped. I'll have to check it out when the new school year starts.

Gardenias and Springtime

I look forward to the gardenias blooming
in my garden come springtime!
I cut a few and fill a vase to bring indoors
and the house is filled with its scent.
The streets are colourful, too,
as trees burst forth with their flowers
of purple, yellow, orange and red.

Don't you just love spring?!

Rainbow Series

I love flowers and all the colours of a rainbow. So why not combine the two? :-)
